FedEx: Regarding DAFF document review fees for low-value import shipments destined for Australia
Dear Valubale Customers
This is Sendoncom Customer Support.
FedEx has reported that from May 8, 2026, FedEx will charge customers a government-mandated document review fee for import shipments under A$1,000 that require documentation review by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). This is in line with current regulatory requirements for biosafety risk management in Australia and will only apply if deemed necessary by the DAFF.
This document review fee was introduced by DAFF several years ago, but until now, FedEx has absorbed this cost for shipments with a value of A$1,000 or less and has not charged customers for it.
Document processing fees vary depending on the nature of the cargo, the time of day, and the duration of the inspection, and are all determined by DAFF. Currently, DAFF charges A$40 per person for every 15 minutes for in-office inspections during normal business hours.
For details on these fees, please visit the official DAFF website below: https://www.agriculture.gov.au/about/fees/biosecurity-cris
This fee applies to goods including, but not limited to, plants, edible products, animal products, works of art, artificial fragrances, and wood.
In addition to this document processing fee, effective May 8, 2026, FedEx will charge a customs processing fee if your import shipment to Australia is not linked to a billable FedEx account. This fee is 2.9% of the customs duties and taxes or A$20 per shipment, whichever is higher. This fee applies when FedEx processes customs duties, other taxes, and other regulatory fees on behalf of customers who do not have a FedEx account number. We recommend that you review your shipment contents and documentation to anticipate potential regulatory requirements.
