Q. Why is an additional JPY 3,000 included in the 15.5% customs duty fee for shipments to the United States?

In addition to the customs duty fee of 15.5% of the declared value of the goods, shipments to the United States are subject to a Duty Handling Fee of JPY 3,000 per package charged by FedEx.

The 15.5% customs duty fee and the JPY 3,000 Duty Handling Fee are combined and charged under the “15.5% Customs Duty Fee” item.

Example:

For one package with a declared value of JPY 10,000:

・Customs duty fee: JPY 10,000 × 15.5% = JPY 1,550
・Duty Handling Fee: JPY 3,000
・Total amount charged: JPY 4,550

If a shipment is divided into multiple packages, a Duty Handling Fee of JPY 3,000 will apply to each package.

This fee applies to shipments to the United States for which a package consolidation request is submitted on or after September 14, 2026.
