Q. What are the new Fees Regarding FedEx and DHL Shipping to the EU?

A.

Due to changes to the EU import system that will take effect on July 1, 2026, customs clearance procedures for shipments sent to EU countries via FedEx or DHL will change.

For shipments with a total declared value of €150 or less, Sendon will charge a handling fee of 600 JPY per product category.

Example:

  • 1 shirt + 1 pair of pants
    • Since these are two different product categories, the total handling fee will be 1,200 JPY.

If your shipment contains multiple items within the same product category, the handling fee is 600 JPY per category, regardless of the number of items.

Please note that product categories are determined based on the HS (Harmonized System) classification used by FedEx or DHL for customs clearance. Therefore, even if items differ in brand, price, color, or material, they may still be classified under the same product category.

For shipments with a declared value exceeding €150, import duties, VAT, and other applicable taxes will continue to be assessed in accordance with EU customs regulations, as before.

This handling fee is an administrative charge for the additional customs declaration procedures required by EU customs authorities, where items must be declared by product category.

Please also note:

  • This handling fee is separate from any import duties, VAT, or other applicable taxes.
  • There have been no changes to the EU VAT system.
  • Import duties, VAT, and other taxes may still be charged in accordance with the regulations of the destination country's customs authorities.
